The Promise

She stood on the corner of Hollywood and Vine looking up, clutching her guitar case in her trembling hand.   It had taken her such a long time to get here; five years of hard work to make this journey.  As the passing crowd jostled the young woman with the flowing red hair, she took a deep breath and remembered her mama’s last words.

“You have a gift, child,” she said.  “You have a voice like an angel.  Make them hear you.  Let them know you’re there.  Promise me.”

“I will, Mama,” she had whispered.

She crossed the street, her excitement mounting.   Capitol Records was up ahead.  Now was her time. They were waiting and would finally hear her.   Her mama would be proud.
